SYDNEY (AAP)
A woman allegedly kidnapped in Melbourne was tied up and driven almost 1,000 kilometres to Sydney's outskirts before police rescued her by tracing her abductor's mobile phone.
Police say the 56-year-old victim knew the 54-year-old man who abducted her from her flat at Hampton East on Monday and drove interstate into NSW.
Victorian detectives flew to Sydney to extradite the man after NSW police foiled the abduction.
Victoria Police tipped off their NSW counterparts after a trace on the man's mobile phone showed he was driving north on the M5 Motorway in the Picton area, south-west of Sydney.
A patrol found the abductor's car on Narellan Road and he was arrested about 11.30am (AEDT) on Tuesday with the help of a police helicopter.
The woman was treated for abrasions to her wrists at Campbelltown Hospital.
The man was taken to Campbelltown Police Station and served with a Victorian arrest warrant for kidnap.
He will face Campbelltown Local Court where police will apply for his extradition to Victoria.
The woman was being interviewed by detectives.
