An Interview with Protip Ghose, Vice President Sales & Marketing, Telsima

What are the key application areas where WiMAX will be deployed in India?

Broadband is fast becoming an essential utility for people - originally the Internet was conceived for acquiring information and downloading content, but now there are many transactions which have gone online. E-governance has resulted in a tremendous change in the way a common man interacts with the Government administration. Distance education, tele-medicine and a myriad of other applications have now grown and are looking at broadband as the highway that will facilitate content delivery. These will be the key market drivers for broadband. The key-end user groups will include mid-to-high-level corporate users, Government users, young urban professionals, and rural users through CSCs and special projects like SWAN (State-Wide Area Network), PURA (Providing Urban facilities to Rural Areas).
